The Original Flying Turtle® (Multiple Colors) Review

The Original Flying Turtle® (Multiple Colors)
Would you rollerskate in snow or ride your bike in the water or even take your snowboard on the gravel and then get mad that your not having any fun???!!! NO!! The people that complain about the toy because of surface areas are NUTS!! Of course you need a flat surface area…duh! I have 4 kids and neighborhood kids over all the time and they ALL want this one. I have to use a timer (literally) when I pull this thing out. The kids see it out and all come to watch and wait for there 5 minutes (thats how long I set my timer for) It makes sharp turns, it can build speed and if you wipe out then you are so close to the ground that you don’t get all scratched up. I have seen ages between 3 to 10 on it and having fun. If you are too tall then your knees have to fold up into your chest too much and you can’t build momentum.

We have the industral version but they are very similar, we bought this as a PT tool for our son with delays and has been a huge hit! He loves it and loves to show other children how to do it. He still doesn’t have good balance at 7 for a bike and gets left behind from neighborhood kids on a bike so with this HE can be just as fast as the other kids!

It doesn’t look like a scooter, rollerblades, bike, or skatboard so all the neighborhood kids want to come and have fun with it when we get it out. My kids have all the outside toys that I have mentioned and this is the most popular.

Is it pricey? Yes, and you DO have to have the right surface but that is not a reason to give it less then 5 stars. We like to take it to the park with the tennis courts and basketball courts because they have a very smooth surfaces and you can really get going.

ONLY DOWNFALL….The kids have to wait their turn, we only have 1.

Fun and fast, the Original Flying Scooter is a kid-powered seated scooter that provides hours of indoor/outdoor play for children aged 3 to 12 years old. This award-winning toy’s unique method of propulsion has made it the subject of studies in experimental nonlinear physics, but we like it for the good times it provides. Simply sit on the molded seat, put your feet on the chrome handle bars, and swing the handlebars side to side to propel yourself forward on level surfaces.

Ready for vigorous play, the Flying Turtle can handle up to 150 pounds and is constructed with a high-quality molded plastic seat, a chrome-colored, powder-coated handlebar, and polyurethane wheels. Great for indoors or outdoors, the Flying Turtle can be ridden on linoleum or hardwood floors, as the polyurethane wheels will not leave marks or scratches. It works great on concrete or asphalt surfaces and on the sidewalk or driveway outside.

Kid-tested and kid-approved, the Flying Turtle was originally designed by a retired Boeing engineer in the 1970s for his grandson. He used a tractor seat on the prototype model that still resembles the seat of today. The Flying Turtle’s front wheels are connected to the handlebars by a lever in such a way that the torque applied to the handlebars when the rider swings them causes a lateral friction force by the wheels on the ground and accelerates the car forward.

Safety tips:

  • Always ride seated, with feet on the handlebars, and wear shoes

This is a fun toy and gives children exercise while having fun. Every child should have one of these. Even fun for teenagers.

Awesome 70′s Toy – mom2eli – IL
If you are looking for the old school 70′s quality..your kids are going to love this. I remember seeing them but didn’t have one but my husband (33yrs old) had a purple one and loved it. Well we got this for our almost 3 yr old for christmas and we decided to bust it out the other night. Its so much fun even for adults. This give you a little flash back from the past and makes you realize how cheap the toys are today..so its worth the 60 bucks because it will last a life time…and maybe more. Even though adults can ride it..still waiting for the day they make adult versions of these..little bigger seat and ape hanger handlebars so you dont have to bend over as much but could really get this thing moving. Fun for the Entire family

coolest possible ride-on – mass mom –
I am so excited about this turtle! I, a 32 year old mother, just received what will be a Christmas gift for my son (3 years old). It came fully assembled and ready to go right out of the box. I sat on it and started turning the handlebars and I was off! I could have ridden for hours – no joke! What a fun toy – may have to order one for myself…just to keep my son company, of course. Can’t wait until we get to open it again at Christmas – if I can keep myself from riding it again in the meantime. A very sturdy and well-made toy!
